AME professor Eric Butcher was recently named an associate editor of the Journal of Astronautical Sciences.

The journal, the official publication of the American Astronautical Society, has been published quarterly since 1954, and is an archival publication devoted to the sciences and technology of astronautics. Articles that appear in the journal present significant new results, important insights, or state-of-the-art surveys in all areas of astrodynamics, atmospheric flight mechanics and space related sciences.

Other associate editors of the journal include researchers from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Texas A&M University, Purdue University and Johns Hopkins University.

Butcher's research interests include nonlinear dynamics and control, orbital mechanics, control of spacecraft attitude, and vibration-based damage detection in structural and rotordynamic systems.
