Li Earns Medallion at 2024 Patent Luncheon
Faculty from the College of Engineering were responsible for more than 20% of the University of Arizona's patents over the past year. Tech Launch Arizona and the College celebrate their groundbreaking engineers every year at the Patent Luncheon, which marks breakthroughs in healthcare, energy storage, and computer chips.
“It speaks to the college, that we are drivers of an economic engine,” said David W. Hahn, the Craig M. Berge dean of the College of Engineering. “These technologies go into the world and create spinout companies and enrich the economy.”
AME professor Peiwen Li earned a patent medallion for the system and method of using his Heat Recovery Apparatus. According to his patent, the application relates to systems and methods for the recovery of energy, in the form of heat, from high temperature solid particulate such as solar-heated sand or ceramic particles or matter produced during the smelting or refining of metal-containing ores.
“Thank you for being engaged with us,” said Doug Hockstad, assistant vice president of Tech Launch Arizona. “Getting a patent issued is national acknowledgement of the importance of an invention.”
