Cantwell Pens Op-Ed on OSIRIS-REx Mission
AME professor of practice and University of Arizona Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation Elizabeth Cantwell penned an op-ed in The Conversation ahead of the spacecraft OSIRIS-REx successfully capturing a sample of the asteroid Bennu. Cantwell shared not only what the rocks and dust captured from Bennu can teach us, but offered a detailed run-through of the complexities of navigating the spacecraft.
"Asteroids are relics of the earliest materials that formed our solar system, and studying such a sample might allow scientists to answer fundamental questions about the origins of the solar system," Cantwell wrote. "The age-old adage rings true: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. We already have gained so much knowledge from the OSIRIS-REx mission, and we will continue exploring and problem solving with the same bold determination that has taken us so far."
