Roslyn Norman isn’t just a mechanical engineering student. The 2018 da Vinci Scholar is also a veteran, a Paragon Space Development Corp. intern, an art minor and a leader in STEM outreach for young women. In her mind, creative problem-solving and communication are some of the most important skills for engineers to have.

“A lot of people don’t see the creative side of engineering, but that’s really what it is: You have to creatively problem-solve to make something better than what you started with,” she said. “And you have to able to communicate well too.”
