Jekan Thanga, an aerospace and mechanical engineering professor at the University of Arizona College of Engineering, leads the ASTEROIDS and SpaceTREx laboratories.

“Everything that we learned and what we’re theorizing about the moon’s lava tube comes from what we’ve seen here on Earth,” Thanga told 'The Washington Post.'

The Washington Post quoted associate professor of AME Jekan Thanga in a September story titled "How lava caves on Earth helped scientists find one on the Moon."

The story, written by Kasha Patel, explores how the discovery of a lava tube on the Moon links to the study of Earth's lava caves.

Patel spoke with Thanga about how the discovery relates to research on Earth.

"Everything that we learned and what we’re theorizing about the moon’s lava tube comes from what we’ve seen here on Earth,” said Thanga, who was not involved in the study.
