MaxQ Technology, a design and fabrication company co-founded by AME alumnus Joe Martinez, received a NASA Group Achievement Award at the 2019 NASA Honor Awards.

The recognition is given to a group whose outstanding accomplishments represent a substantial contribution to NASA's mission. MaxQ Technology won the Group Achievement Award for developing high-efficiency heat exchangers for the ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station, or ECOSTRESS, mission, which investigates how plants cope with heat and water stress.

"I learned it is rare for teams outside of NASA to get this recognition, since most of the awards are for teams within NASA," said Martinez, who received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1992. "I was honored and privileged to attend the ceremony as well as impressed by the breadth of achievements by the scientists and engineers at NASA."

MaxQ Technology focuses on the design and fabrication of Friction Stir Welded aluminum cold plates and heat exchangers.
