In Memoriam: Chuan F. 'Tony' Chen
The UA Department of Aerospace and Mechanical engineering is sad to share the news that Chuan F. "Tony" Chen, professor emeritus and former department head, passed away Aug. 17.
Chen led the UA AME from 1980 to 1989 and was an internationally recognized scientist in fluid dynamics. He published over a hundred scientific articles and papers, gave numerous seminars and lectures at universities and institutions, and chaired multiple national and international conferences.
He was a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; a member of American Society of Engineering Education; and a visiting fellow and life member of Clare Hall at the University of Cambridge. He received a distinguished alumni award from the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982.
Chen retired from UA in 2002.
The department will honor Chen with a memorial event in spring 2020.
