AME Alum Named Vice Mayor of Chandler

René Lopez, who graduated from University of Arizona with a bachelor's in nuclear engineering and a minor in direct energy conversion, was recently elected vice mayor of Chandler. The Chandler City Council voted unanimously to elect Lopez, who serves as a city council member. Lopez will will serve in the position for approximately one year. 

Lopez is a third-generation Arizona native who has more than 15 years of experience working in telecommunications, energy and information technology. He currently serves on the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, the Chandler Airport Commission and the Arizona Department of Revenue Municipal Tax Code Commission.

"I look forward to the added responsibilities and I am thankful for the mayor and my colleagues on the city council for the opportunity to serve in this new capacity," said Vice Mayor Lopez.
